Brazil’s Patent Office (Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial, or INPI) in 2008 plans to implement an electronic system for filing of patents, similar to that existing for trademarks. With the new system INPI expects to reduce from six to two and a half years the average term for patent registration.
