Supreme Court revokes decision that prevented auction for the first concession for exploitation of a public forest

Brazil’s Supreme Court accepted a motion filed by the Union’s General Attorney Office (Advocacia Geral da União, or AGU) to revoke a lower court’s decision that suspended the auction of an exploitation concession of a public forest, the Jamari National Forrest. AGU sustained that the forest exploitation concession, according to Law No. 11,284/06, is not a disposition or concession of use of state-owned land, situations that would require Congress’ approval.
