Supreme court upholds prohibition of used tires imports

Brazil’s Supreme Court upheld, by majority vote, two prior decisions delivered by Court’s president, Justice Ellen Gracie, which prohibited imports of used tires into the country. The Court’s main argument was that such imports could increase damages to the environment and public health as imported tires cannot be refurbished. (STA 118 e 171)
